Mission Partner: Yala Widows & Orphans Support Project (YAWOSUP)

YAWOSUP is headed up by Edward Wata and operates in rural Western Kenya, focused on community development work to improve education, health, farming and housing for local residents, both young and old.

Edward continues to be so grateful that, as a MissionPartner, YAWOSUP is able to receive funds to provide this widow (see photo) with a decent house, in which to bring up her family safely. YAWOSUP also received funds to construct their own office, which will save the cost of future rent charges.

Inflation remains high, affecting the cost of basic foodstuffs, which means families rely even more on YAWOSUP to help them to get the most out of their own small-scale farming activities by providing seed and fertiliser.

YAWOSUP continues to support local children with the provision of quality education at Barbara Leighton Academy and a nursery and primary school with up to 120 pupils. Rehema Trust, a UK registered charity, continues to support the school and its development.

As a Mission Partner, YAWOSUP received additional funds to extend Electricity and Internet Access to all classrooms at Barbara Leighton Academy plus additional IT equipment to support this increasingly important part of the school curriculum.

Give Thanks for:

  • the support given to improve local food security at a time of high food costs.

  • the steps taken this year to establish links between St Giles’ School and Barbara Leighton Academy.

  • The Barbara Leighton Academy staff - committed to improving young lives through good quality education.

    Pray for:

    • an end to the war in Ukraine, which continues to increase world food prices and to create such hardship.

    • protection and good health for Edward, his family and all his co-workers

    • the vital Feeding Programme at Barbara Leighton Academy to be maintained for all pupils. Malcolm Leighton www.rehematrust.com
