New Wine

What makes a group of relatively normal people spend their precious holiday camping in the rain on a very basic site where cattle sheds are considered the height of luxury? And do it again the next year and then the next? And then persuade their friends and family to join them to do the same? The answer is …..New Wine.

New Wine is an organisation which aims to resource local churches to build God’s Kingdom. One of the ways they do this is by holding conferences to encourage, teach and inspire ordinary Christians to live fully for Jesus. This year over 80 of us from SGSG had a fantastic time together, along with thousands of others on the Kent Showground.

For many of us the conference has become the highlight of our year and this time away from our usual routine has given us the chance to meet with God in life-changing ways. The sense of community which we enjoy through huge shared BBQs, late night chats and communal worship is a very special part of the event.

It is always a joy to see the children and young people developing their own relationships with Jesus, and each other, through the excellent kids groups, fun activities and the ways they can serve. Caring for younger members of the community and sing-along washing-up sessions give them a real sense of belonging!

If you like the idea of New Wine but sleeping under canvas is not your thing you can stay off site or even visit for a day to try it out.
