Restoring the Ring

As part of Ashtead PCC’s commitment to net carbon zero, St George’s Church has recently undergone some exciting maintenance work. Not only was the roof space above the dais surveyed as part of our sustainability strategy, but—with a little ingenuity and a towering scaffold—the church bell was lovingly restored to working order for the first time in years.

Celebrating New Deacons and Priests in the Diocese

Late last month, 28 individuals—including 19 women—were ordained at Guildford Cathedral, marking a significant milestone in their journey of faith and ministry. Among them were our very own curates, Alison Anderson and Matt Regan, who both had an enjoyable and memorable day. The annual ordination services welcomed 15 new priests and 13 new deacons from diverse backgrounds. Some have overcome personal challenges, making their calling even more powerful. Open the Book: A Living Legacy in Ashtead

Back in 2014, I received a letter from rural Thailand, along with a cheque for £200. After receiving a small legacy on the death of her Aunt Phoebe, my friend Pat had decided she wanted to use the money for the benefit of others. Pat’s words were simple yet powerful:

Pausing for Thought

Last January we changed our service pattern and Sunday night youthwork provision. This has brought clear benefits, especially for the St George’s morning congregations and our younger youth. However, we are mindful that a missing element is an evening service shaped more intentionally around older youth and young adults, for whom this is very much our ‘shop window’ service.

Journey to Net Zero - Solar Panels Update

It’s now over 15 months since our solar panels were installed on the St George’s roofs. When I look up at them from the car park, I still feel very proud of what we have achieved to reduce our Carbon Footprint, through the hard work and generosity of so many church members.
